Cabinet today resolved that there was need for a political solution to the issue of the Independent Boundaries Review Commission. The Cabinet decided that the matter be resolved through consultations between the executive and parliament. In this regard the Cabinet Committee on the Implementation of the Constitution was mandated to seek a political solution in consultation with the relevant committee of parliament. The Cabinet that met at State House, Nairobi , under the Chairmanship of President Mwai Kibaki underscored the need to resolve the matter to ensure that the momentum on the implementation of the constitution is not lost. Todays meeting also rescinded the decision to wind up the Kenya National Trading Corporation Limited. The Cabinet therefore approved the restructuring, revival and expansion of the mandate of the corporation. In particular the KNTC will develop the retail and wholesale sector in the country in line with Vision 2030. Among other things, the KNTC will promote and market produce from local, medium and small enterprises. It will provide capacity for the selling of produce of cottage industries in the rural areas with a view to helping them penetrate local and regional markets. The Cabinet also undertook the following business 1. Approved establishment of the Colombia University Global Center for Africa in Kenya. 2. Granted International status to Global e-Schools and Community Initiative in Nairobi, Kenya. 3. Ratified the protocol on environment and natural resources management. 4. Ratified the instruments amending the constitution of the International Telecommunications Union and the Convention of the International Telecommunication Union (Geneva, 1992.). |
