President Mwai Kibaki receives the third report of the pending bills clossing Committee ( PBCC) from the Chairman of the Committee Mr D.G. Kariuki at State House Nairobi.
Pending bills Closing committee mandate extended

President Mwai Kibaki has today extended the mandate of the Pending bills Closing committee (PBCC) to enable the committee complete its work.

The committee through the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Mr Uhuru Kenyatta had requested for extension during a meeting with President Kibaki at State House Nairobi.

The Committee led by its chairman Mr. D. G. Kariuki had met the Head of State to present the third volume of the pending bills report.

The report gives details of historical domestic arrears evaluated by the Committee and recommendations on the way forward.

In the report summary, only one per cent of the claims amounting to ksh. 100 million evaluated by the committee was found to be payable by the Government.

The committees’ recommendations include payment of genuine claims, recovery from the claimants of moneys found to be owed to the government, and investigations, prosecution and blacklisting of contractors who have been defrauding the Government.

The Pending bills closing committee was appointed by the President on 14th January 2005 to bring to finality the problem of pending bills and presented its first and second reports on 5th may,2006 and 29th June 2007 respectively.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta and Treasury Permanent Secretary Mr. Joseph Kinyua witnessed the handover.
