President Kibaki sends Christmas greetings

President Mwai Kibaki has sent a message of goodwill and Christmas greetings to the Christian community in Kenya.

In his message issued from State House Mombasa, President Kibaki said as Christians celebrate the birth of Christ, they should rededicate themselves to his teachings of obedience to God, upright living and the love for one another.

He called on the Christian community to be inspired by Christ's example of selfless service to others with generous hearts and open hands, saying it was through acts of kindness towards those in need that Christians can fulfill the spirit of the Christmas season.

"As we celebrate this occasion, therefore let us remember those in need and especially our brothers and sisters who were affected by the recent floods," the President said.

As a nation, the President added, "Let us take time to give thanks to God for the progress we are making in rebuilding our country and for the blessings bestowed on each one of us."

The President at the same time appealed to motorists to exercise maximum caution on the roads, noting that many Kenyans would be traveling various parts of the country to spend this festive season with their loved ones.

He urged Kenyans to avoid over indulgence so that the spirit of Christmas is not marred by ugly incidents.
