President Mwai Kibaki is escorted by the Nigerian Minister for Youth and Africa Integration, Hon. Frank Nuwekwe on arrival at Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport, Abuja, Nigeria where he will attend the 4th AU Assembly.

President arrives in Abuja for AU meeting

President Mwai Kibaki has arrived in Abuja, Nigeria to attend the 4th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.

The plane carrying the President and his entourage touched down at Abuja International Airport shortly after 6.00 p.m.

President Kibaki was received at the airport by Nigerian Minister for Youth and African Integration Mr. Frank Nuwekwe, Kenya's High Commissioner to Nigeria David Koikai, Kenya's Permanent Representative to the A.U. Ambassador Boaz Mbaya and senior Nigerian Government officials and inspected a guard of honour mounted by a detachment of the Nigerian defence force.

Earlier, President Kibaki was seen off at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Minister Raphael Tuju, Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Amb. Francis Muthaura, Police Commissioner Major General Hussein Ali and Nairobi Provincial commissioner Francis Sigei among others.

The President was accompanied by First Lady Lucy Kibaki, Ministers Chirau Ali Mwakwere and John Koech, Permanent Secretaries Amb. Esther Tolle and Stanley Murage, Kenya's Special Envoy to Somalia Peace Process Amb. Bethwel Kiplagat and his Sudan Peace Process counterpart Lt-Gen Lazarus Sumbeiywo.
