President Mwai Kibaki and First Lady Mrs. Lucy Kibaki are received by Gambian President Yahya Jammeh on arrival at Banjul International Airport to attend the 7th ordinary session of the assembly of African Heads of State and Government.

President Kibaki receives arousing welcome in the Gambia

President Mwai Kibaki arrived in Banjul Gambia this evening for a four-day official visit where he will attend the 7th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of African Union Heads of State and Government.

The plane carrying President Kibaki and the First Lady Lucy Kibaki touched down at the Banjul International Airport shortly after 8-pm Kenyan time.

On arrival President Kibaki was given a rousing welcome by his host President Yahya AJJ Jammeh and the Gambian First Lady Madam Zainab Yahya Jammeh and thereafter entertained by various groups of traditional dancers.

During his visit, President Kibaki will also attend the African Peer Review Mechanism Forum of Heads of State and Government at which the APRM secretariat will present the Country reports of both Kenya and Rwanda.
The APRM is a mutually agreed instrument voluntarily acceded to by the member States of the African Union as an African self-monitoring mechanism.

The mandate of the APRM is to encourage participating member States to ensure that their policies and practices conform to the agreed political, economic and corporate governance values, codes and standards.
The Kenyan report is already being touted as the most candid ever to emerge from an African country due to the expansion of the democratic space, which emerged since President Kibaki took over the reigns of leadership.

The president is also accompanied by ministers Raphael Tuju, Henry Obwocha and Permanent Secretaries Ambassador Lazarus Amayo, Dr. Edward Sambili and Dorothy Angote among other senior Government officials.
