President
directs issuance of title deeds
President
Mwai Kibaki today assured residents of Olenguruone in Nakuru District
that the government will issue them with title deeds so that they can
effectively use their pieces of lands for meaningful development.
The Minster for Lands and Settlement Amos Kimunya who was present assured
the president that the residents will be issued with title deeds in the
next three months.
Addressing thousands of jubilant wananchi after attending an open air
Church Service at Olenguruone grounds in Nakuru District, President Kibaki
stressed that land was an important resource for development.
The Head of State challenged pyrethrum farmers to increase the production
of the crop as the government was working towards addressing the problem
of marketing currently facing the sub sector.
" You have been told what the government is doing to ensure pyrethrum
farmers are paid their dues. That is exactly what we will continue doing
to ensure farmers enjoy the fruits of their labour" he said.
Responding to requests from area leaders President Kibaki said, the government
will look into the problems facing the district.
Earlier on his way to Olenguruone, President Kibaki made a stop over at
Salgaa trading centre where he said the government would expand and modernize
the medical facility at Rongai Town to provide adequate services to the
local people and many accident victims along the busy Nakuru Eldoret Highway.
And responding to concerns raised by local leaders President Kibaki asked
employers in the area to observe the labour laws.
He said the government will follow very closely allegations that workers
in pyrethrum and flower farms in the area were being mistreated.
The President at the same time called for proper planning of the centre
to be able to carter for increasing trade activities in this region.
" You should expand your town to cop with increased trade activities
emanating from the realization of the East African Community and especially
now that Rwanda and Burundi were poised to join the community," he
added.
Other areas the President made stopovers were Molo, Elbergone, Njoro
Present were First Lady Lucy Kibaki, cabinet Ministers Njeru Ndwiga, Raphael
Tuju, Amos Kimunya, Chris Murungaru, Karisa Maitha, Linah Kilimo and Kipruto
arap Kirwa.
Others were assistant ministers Alice Chelaitte, Mwangi Kiunjuri, Joshua
Toro and Stephen Tarus and several mps including Kuresoi mp Moses Cheboi.
