President Kibaki sends Easter greetings to Kenyans

President Mwai Kibaki has sent a goodwill message and greetings to all Kenyans as they prepare to celebrate the Easter holiday starting tomorrow.

In his message, President Kibaki appealed to Christians countrywide to conduct special prayers for the country as the Government steps up its efforts to improve the lives of Kenyans.

"Let us all sanctify ourselves and pray for God's intervention in our efforts in fighting diseases, poverty, corruption and insecurity among other pressing problems that continue to afflict our country," the President said.

He also urged Christians to adhere to Christ's call for righteousness, love for one another and upright and honest living, saying this will help in solving many of the problems that Kenyans face.

Noting that it is not God's will that Kenyans continue to face many problems, the President called upon Kenyans not to relax their prayerful vigilance but to redouble it.

He said Christians should use the Easter holiday to reflect on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and celebrate His resurrection as well as the promise of redemption and eternal life, which arise from the power of the resurrection.

Said President Kibaki: "The triumph of Jesus over the power of sin and death was the consummation of God's plan of deliverance for humanity."

The reality of Easter, the President added, is therefore a message of hope and assurance for Christians and all humanity that God has provided the key to escape wretchedness of human condition and enjoy life in its fullness in harmony with Him.
