President Kibaki attends Easter Mass

President Mwai Kibaki today joined hundreds of Christians for an Easter Sunday mass at Our Lady of Consolata Catholic Cathedral in Nyeri Town.

The mass was conducted by Nyeri Catholic Arch-bishop Nicodemus Kirima who also delivered the sermon.

Addressing wananchi after the mass, President Kibaki urged Kenyans to utilize the Easter holiday to strengthen their relationship with God instead of engaging in counter productive activities.

He singled out excessive consumption of alcohol as one of the vices that Kenyans should guard against during this Easter season, saying excessive drinking does not reflect the true meaning of Easter which is a time of thanksgiving and glorifying God through good deeds.

"Lets thank God for His guidance and renew our relationship with Him through embracing the teachings of the Christian doctrine," the President said.

He once again sent a message of goodwill and greetings to all Kenyans as they celebrate the Easter holiday and expressed hope that the long weekend will rejuvenate their energies to engage in hard work.

In his sermon Arch-Bishop Kirima asked Christians to reflect on their spiritual life and thank God for the blessings He has continued to shower on the country.

He called on Kenyans to unite in addressing the problems facing them including insecurity, poverty and diseases, saying it is through trusting in God and working hard that the country's aspiration can be realized.

Present were First Lady Lucy Kibaki, cabinet minister Chris Murungaru and Central Provincial Commissioner Peter Raburu among other senior government officials.
