President Kibaki assures on security President Mwai Kibaki today warned that the government will take stern action against anybody found engaging in criminal activities. Addressing wananchi in Othaya Town, President Kibaki stressed that the government will not allow thieves and other criminals to disrupt development activities by causing insecurity. "We do not want thieves and other criminals to disturb peace loving Kenyans. Therefore, we will have no mercy when dealing with criminals," the President said. He assured Kenyans, that the government will do everything within its power to ensure that their security is not compromised, adding people should support the government when meting out stiff punishment on criminals. On agriculture, the President urged coffee farmers to increase production in order to benefit from the sector, which was streamlined recently. He once again told those managing the coffee sector to ensure that farmers are paid their dues promptly so that they can reap maximally from their hard labour. "We do not want to hear of some officials misappropriating farmers money. The government will not spare anybody who tries to take advantage of the farmers," the President said. On infrastructure, President Kibaki said the government would continue rehabilitating roads countrywide to enable farmers take their produce to the market on time. He said other roads including the Isiolo/Moyale road will be constructed to open up markets in neighbouring countries for Kenyan goods. President Kibaki added that the restoration of peace in Somalia and in Southern Sudan should also offer a ready market for Kenyan goods. President Kibaki, who is in Nyeri for the Easter weekend, was accompanied by First Lady Lucy Kibaki. |
