Nairobi, March 31 , 2006
President Mwai Kibaki today at State House Nairobi received credentials from the incoming ambassadors of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Germany, Colombia and Spain.
Receiving credentials from the ambassador Walter Johannes Lindner of Germany, President Kibaki observed that Kenya appreciated the l development assistance from the people and government of Germany.
Ambassador Lindner said bilateral relations between Kenya and German were excellent, adding that he shall further endeavor to promote the existing relations.
And receiving credentials from ambassador Maria Victoria Diaz De Suarez of Colombia, President Kibaki said Kenya and Colombia shared common views on global issues and work closely at multilateral level.
He added that there was potential for co-operation in agriculture, power technology, forestry, engineering, trade and tourism noting that the two countries could also collaborate in combating drug trafficking.
Kenya and Colombia are some of the worlds largest producers of coffee.
Ambassador De Suarez said Colombia could learn a lot from Kenya in bringing peace to the country that is grabbling with internal terrorism.
She said, We can learn a lot from you due to the role played by Kenya in building and fostering conditions for the prevalence of peace in the eastern and central regions of Africa.
Addressing the Spanish ambassador Nicolas Martin Cinto, the President said Kenya and Spain have collaborated in many fields since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1967.
Some of the areas of cooperation included medical supplies, rural electrification, agriculture and livestock and technical training, he noted.
Receiving credentials from Amb. Hamdi Bueha Sidi Mahmud, of Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, President Kibaki said Kenya would work closely with other African countries to enhance the mandate of the African Union.
President Kibaki told the envoys to feel free and move around the country to learn more about Kenya and her people.
Present were the Minister for Foreign Affairs Raphaal Tuju, assistant Minister Moses Wetangula, acting PS in the Ministry Lazarus Amayo and the chief of protocol ambassador Bruce Madete.
