President Mwai Kibaki in discussions with His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of Kuwait when he paid him a courtesy call at his residential place in Saudi Arabia.

Presient Kibaki hold talks with the Amir of Kuwait

The Arab Fund for Development AFD has pledged to fund the rehabilitation of Bura Irrigation scheme in Tana River District.

In a meeting between President Kibaki and the King of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in Riyadh Saudi Arabia, the Amir assured that Kuwait will undertake the rehabilitation of the Bura project in order to alleviate poverty in the country.

Lauding the Amir for agreeing to Finance the project, President Kibaki also appreciated Kuwait`s assistance in various infrastructural development in the country.
The president further welcomed Kuwait businessmen to invest in various sectors of the economy especially the abundant opportunities of value addition in the agricultural sector. Currently, Kenyan exports to Kuwait include Coffee, Tea, Fruits and flowers.

Kuwait Amir also lauded Kenya for its leading role in brokering peace and stability in Somalia and Sudan.He said peace in the two countries is crucial for the overall development and stability in Africa and the world at large.

On his part, President Kibaki who is also the chairman of the Inter Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) emphasized the need for all members of the Arab league to support the peace and reconstruction processes in Somalia and Sudan.

Present during the talks were Foreign Affairs Minister Raphael Tuju, Regional Development Authority Minister Mohamed A. Mohamoud and the Assistant Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Development Mohamed Abu Chiaba.
