N.S.H.I.F bill to be tabled in parliament

President Mwai Kibaki today said that the Government will table before Parliament the National Social Health Insurance Fund Bill 2004.

Noting that access to health care was one of the pledges made by his government, President Kibaki said it was important that all Kenyans have access to affordable basic health care.

President Kibaki said he was in support of a phased implementation of the N.S.H.I.F. within the available national resources.

The President said that implementation of the scheme should be phased out over a period of time to allow for it's realistic implementation, bearing in mind the state of the country's national resources.

The President called for inclusion of concerns raised by stakeholders in line with recommendations of the Technical Committee constituted to review the bill, and ensure sustainability of the scheme in the long term.
