President Kibaki returns from Abuja President Mwai Kibaki returned home this evening from Abuja , Nigeria where he attended the African Union Peace and Security Council Summit.
At the summit, President Kibaki underscored the need for full implementation of the Southern Sudan Comprehensive Peace Agreement (C.P.A) to boost the Darfur peace process.
The President told the summit that the success of the C.P.A would send a positive and re-assuring message of peace and stability in the Sudan . Kenya was invited to the summit by virtue of its position as Sudan s neighbour and the role it played in the Sudan peace process.
While in Abuja , President Kibaki also held talks with AU Commission Chairman Dr. Jean Ping and assured him of Kenya s commitment to helping AU in achieving its goal of ensuring peace and stability in Africa .
The plane carrying the President and his entourage touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly after 6.00 p.m. where he was received by Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka, Chief of General Staff Gen. Jeremiah Kianga and Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Amb. Francis Muthaura among other senior Government officials.
Thereafter, President Kibaki inspected a guard of honour mounted by a detachment of the Kenya Army before he was entertained by groups of traditional dancers and choirs.
The President was accompanied to Abuja by Foreign Affairs Minister Moses Wetangula, Assistant Minister Orwa Ojode, Defence and Foreign Relations Parliamentary Select Committee member Mr. Jeremiah Kioni and Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Thuita Mwangi among others.
Meanwhile, President Kibaki has sent a message of condolence to the family, relatives and friends of Ambassador Pius Namachanja who died yesterday.
Ambassador Namachanja was, until his death, Kenya s ambassador to Brazil .
In his message, the Head of State said Kenya has lost a hardworking diplomat who served the country with utmost dedication.
The President prayed to God to give the bereaved family the strength and courage to gradually live through the loss and urged them to remain strong and steadfast in prayers. |
