I am pleased to send this message of goodwill to Christians all over the country on the occasion of this year’s Easter holiday.

The Easter holiday is the central event of the Christian faith and the most important day of the church calendar. It marks a time when Christians reflect on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and celebrate His resurrection as well as the promise of redemption and eternal life, which arise from the power of the resurrection.

The spirit of Easter, therefore, is all about hope, love and joyful living that comes from the resurrection of Christ. It signifies restoration of our hope that victory of life over death will also be witnessed in our daily lives, individually and collectively as a nation.

As we celebrate Easter, I appeal to Christians countrywide to hold out this message of hope, joy and the new life that Jesus offers us by showing compassion to those disadvantaged in our midst. Let us become rays of hope and live, Godly lives, so that others may see the risen Christ living in us.

This year we are celebrating Easter at a time when we are facing various challenges relating to our livelihoods. Some of these challenges are the result of developments in other parts of the world and the vagaries of weather.

The Government, however, is committed to implement measures to ensure the well being of all Kenyans to the fullest extent possible. The Government will take measures to ensure that inflation is under control and that food stocks are released to ensure that prices remain in the reach of all Kenyans. We will also avail food to the most vulnerable members of society. As we grapple with these challenges as a Government, I urge all Kenyans to embrace the true Christian spirit of assisting the less fortunate members of our society.

Through hard work and concern for one another, we will succeed in overcoming the challenges facing us.

I also call upon Kenyans from all walks of life to focus not on issues that divide us but on those that unite us, build us and make us better. Let us especially dedicate our energies to the successful implementation of the new Constitution which guarantees a better future for our people.

I also urge all Christians as they congregate in various places of worship this Easter weekend to continue praying for peace, unity and prosperity for our country.
